Federal Bar Association Insurance Tax Seminar

Jorge Castro, Marc Gerson, George Hani, Maria Jones, and Lisandra Ortiz will speak at the Federal Bar Association (FBA) Insurance Tax Seminar in Washington, DC, on May 29, 2025.

Castro and Gerson will moderate the "Tax Legislative Outlook" panel. Senior staff from the House of Representatives Committee on Ways and Means, the Senate Committee on Finance, and the Joint Committee on Taxation will provide their perspectives on the current and future tax legislative agenda, including the potential for enactment of tax legislation for the remainder of the year and the potential impact of the pending congressional elections.

Hani will speak on the "Primer: Basics of Accounting Methods and Changes" panel. This session will explore the fundamentals of accounting methods and changes. Participants will gain a clear understanding of what constitutes an accounting method and the process for requesting and implementing changes using Form 3115. This session will provide attendees with practical knowledge and actionable insights to navigate changes effectively. 

Jones will moderate the "Tax Issues for Health Insurance Companies and Products" panel. This panel will address a wide variety of issues involving health insurance. The panel will review common issues arising in section 162(m) computations and address possible approaches for resolution. The panel will analyze issues involving short-term, limited-duration insurance and fixed indemnity insurance. 

Ortiz will speak on the "Key Developments in Tax Controversy" panel. The panel will discuss hot topics and recent developments in the tax controversy area. Of particular interest, the panel will discuss regulation interpretation post-Loper Bright.  Tips for best practices with IRS and interpretation of new IRS guidance will also be discussed.
