ABA Tax Section 2018 Midyear Meeting

Erin M. Sweeney,* James R. Gadwood, and Yongo Ding* will speak during the American Bar Association's (ABA) Tax Section 2018 Midyear Meeting in San Diego, CA.

Sweeney will present, as part of a panel, "Who's Controlling our Plan Data?" Panelists will discuss what benefit plan fiduciaries need to know about cybersecurity in order to protect the plan, protect plan participants, and satisfy their fiduciary duties. Gadwood will present, as part of a panel, "Administrative Practice Important Developments." Panelist will discuss current developments and topics of immediate interest in tax administrative practice. Gadwood will also present, as part of a panel, "Evolving Constraints on Tax Administration." Panelist will review recent cases and assess how the IRS, taxpayers, and counsel should proceed given the ever-evolving budget and legal constraints on tax administration. Gadwood will participate as a moderator during "APA Challenges to Treasury Regulations: Partly Cloudy with a Chance of Success." Panelist will identify administrative-law challenges that can be brought against a Treasury regulation. Ding will present, as part of a panel, "Employee Benefits Fiduciary Responsibility/Plan Investments Update." Panelists will discuss recent guidance and other issues addressing ERISA fiduciary responsibilities, including the Department of Labor's conflict of interest rule and the associated class exemptions.
