Michael Desmond, George Hani, Robert Kovacev, Jeffrey Tebbs, and Katherine Lewis will speak at the American Bar Association (ABA) Midyear Tax Meeting on January 15-17, 2026.
Desmond will present, as a part of a panel, "Tax Litigation in a Resource-Constrained Environment: Trends, Challenges, and Ethical Considerations for Practitioners." As the IRS continues to navigate significant staff reductions and limited resources, taxpayers and practitioners are experiencing a shifting enforcement landscape. This session will provide updates on changes in enforcement priorities, the impact of staffing shortages, and the practical implications of these developments on litigation.
Hani will moderate a special edition of the ABA Tax Committee Leader Networking Session, "Maximizing Your Tax Section Leadership Journey." In this session, various Section leaders will share advice with new leaders, focusing on strategies to ensure involvement in the Section is personally rewarding and professionally advantageous. Desmond will speak on the panel.
Kovacev will present, as a part of a panel, "What's Up? Recent Developments and Pending Legislation on Tax Controversy Matters." This session will review key cases, IRS rulings and legislation, and pending legislation involving tax procedure, penalties, and litigation.
Tebbs will present, as a part of a panel, "Breaking Waves: One Big Beautiful Bill & Beyond."
