TAX TAKE: Wind of Change – Key Senate Finance Committee Tax Staff Moves

Tax Alert

Last week, Senator Ron Wyden (D-OR), Chairman of the Committee on Finance, announced key leadership staff changes and promotions on the Democratic Committee staff. A few highlights:

  • Tiffany Smith, Chief Tax Counsel since 2016, has been promoted to General Counsel. Tiffany is a veteran of the Finance Committee and previously served in the IRS Office of Chief Counsel. As General Counsel, she is expected to work closely with Chairman Wyden on Committee legislative strategy and policy direction. Given her significant experience, we expect Tiffany to continue to have a key advisory role on the Committee's tax policy agenda.
  • Bobby Andres has been promoted to Chief Tax Advisor, where he will lead the Committee's Democratic tax team. Bobby has served on the Committee's tax staff since 2013 and has expertise in infrastructure and energy tax issues.
  • Chris Arneson has been promoted to Chief Budget and Economic Advisor. Chris has significant experience in tax accounting and tax-exempt issues.

With the current Congress nearing its year-end conclusion, other changes and potential staff departures from the tax-writing committees are likely. As you think about engaging Congress on tax proposals impacting your organization, it is important to monitor these changes in developing and executing your legislative strategy. #TaxTake
