Miller & Chevalier Adds Leading Tax Controversy Lawyer Sheri Dillon; Eric Albers-Fiedler Joins as Counsel
Washington, DC, June 29, 2026 – Miller & Chevalier Chartered is pleased to announce that Sheri A. Dillon has joined the firm as Special Counsel. Dillon focuses her practice on federal tax controversy matters, guiding clients through Internal Revenue Service (IRS) examinations and appeals, administrative claims, and litigation, and counsels clients on a broad range of business and tax-planning matters.
"Sheri is an outstanding addition to Miller & Chevalier and to our market-leading federal tax practice," said William Barry, Chair of Miller & Chevalier. "Her deep experience handling sophisticated tax controversy matters enhances our ability to guide our clients through their most critical tax disputes and she will be a significant asset to the firm."
Dillon has extensive tax litigation experience in matters before the U.S. Tax Court, district and appellate courts, and the Court of Federal Claims. She represents corporate taxpayers, partnerships, partners, tax-exempt organizations, and high-wealth individual taxpayers across a wide range of industries, including financial services, private equity, hedge funds, real estate, energy, manufacturing, and consumer products.
Miller & Chevalier's Tax department is further strengthened by Eric J. Albers-Fiedler, who recently joined the firm as Counsel. Albers-Fiedler has worked closely with Dillon throughout his career and also focuses his practice on federal tax controversy matters. A certified public accountant, he is particularly valued by clients for his ability to analyze issues holistically and address business concerns beyond tax.
"Sheri brings extraordinary judgment, technical depth, and credibility to clients' most complex tax disputes," said Michael Desmond, Chair of Miller & Chevalier's Tax department. "Many of us have known and worked alongside Sheri for years, and we are thrilled to have her here. Her arrival strengthens our ability to serve clients in high-stakes controversy matters while also advancing the firm's long-standing position within the tax community. Together with Eric's practical, business-oriented perspective as a CPA, their addition further enhances the depth of our tax controversy team."
Dillon's recent work includes matters involving economic substance, substance-over-form, and bona fide partnership issues; the taxation of partnerships and partners; financial products; income tax accounting; cancellation of indebtedness income; employment tax; debt-equity classification; charitable contribution deductions; tax-exempt organizations; tax credits; and valuation. She also represents taxpayers and investors in promoter audit investigations.
In addition to her client work, Dillon is deeply engaged in service to the tax bar and to low-income taxpayers. Effective August 2026, she is Chair-Elect of the American Bar Association (ABA) Tax Section and previously served as the Section's Vice Chair for Pro Bono and Outreach. She currently serves as president and director of the Washington, DC Center for Public Interest Tax Law, where she helps low-income taxpayers navigate the federal tax system.
"I have long viewed Miller & Chevalier as an elite, boutique Washington practice, and the opportunity to join this firm is exceptional," Dillon said. "It is a privilege to reconnect here with so many colleagues I have known and worked alongside for years. I am excited to work with like-minded colleagues and to focus on what I enjoy most: serving clients, strengthening the tax community, and expanding access to justice for low-income taxpayers."
Dillon has been recognized by leading legal publications and organizations, including Chambers High Net Worth Guide for Tax: Private Client Nationwide, Chambers USA for Tax (District of Columbia) and Tax Controversy (Nationwide), Legal 500 for Tax: U.S. Taxes: Contentious, and The Best Lawyers in America for Tax Law and Tax Litigation and Controversy. She received the ABA Tax Section's Janet Spragens Pro Bono Award in 2023.
Dillon earned her J.D., cum laude, from Georgetown University Law Center, her M.P.P., with honors, from the University of Missouri-Columbia, and her B.A. from the University of Missouri-Columbia. She is admitted in the bar in the District of Columbia and Georgia.
