Member Alex Sarria to Receive Prestigious 2020 Hispanic National Bar Association Top Lawyers Under 40 Award

Washington, DC, February 18, 2020 – Miller & Chevalier Chartered is pleased to announce that Member Alejandro (Alex) L. Sarria was selected by the Hispanic National Bar Association (HNBA) to receive the prestigious 2020 HNBA Top Lawyers Under 40 Award.

"I am incredibly humbled to share this honor with such a talented and accomplished group of attorneys," Sarria said. "The diversity of this year's honorees, both in their backgrounds and life experience, is a testament to the great progress of the Hispanic bar throughout the United States."

Sarria was chosen from a record number of highly qualified candidates for the award, which honors accomplished lawyers who demonstrate professional excellence, integrity, leadership, commitment to the Hispanic community, and dedication to improving the legal profession.

"We are pleased to honor 28 of our young Hispanic lawyers from across the nation and across sectors that showcase the exceptional legal talent and leadership that our community has to offer," said Irene Oria, HNBA National President. "The substantial and increasingly larger number of highly qualified nominees every year illustrates that our community is making progress in the areas of law and leadership. But we know that much work remains to be done and the HNBA will continue to celebrate and highlight our talented lawyers that have distinguished themselves. On behalf of the HNBA, I want to thank the Awards Committee for their diligent work during this year’s particularly arduous selection process, and I extend my heartfelt congratulations to the award winners."

Sarria was nominated for the award in part for his work as pro bono general counsel to the Congressional Hispanic Leadership Institute (CHLI) from 2014-2019. During that tenure, he "demonstrated the professional excellence, integrity, leadership, and commitment to the Hispanic community and legal professional that are deserving" of the accolade, and he "possesses the judgment, legal acumen, experience, and work ethic normally associated with attorneys who are far more senior," according to his nomination, which was submitted by a former member of the CHLI Board of Directors.

"We congratulate Alex for earning this well-deserved recognition from HNBA," said Kathryn Cameron Atkinson, Chair of Miller & Chevalier. "It is a testament to his exceptional work as a lawyer and his dedication to the Hispanic community."

Sarria will receive his award at the 2020 HNBA/VIA Corporate Counsel Conference in Phoenix, AZ on Friday, March 20, 2020.
