Former January 6th Committee, Senate, House, and U.S. Department of Justice Senior Advisor Brings Deep Government Investigations Experience to Preeminent Litigation Team

Washington, DC, December 16, 2022 – Miller & Chevalier Chartered is pleased to announce the addition of Sandeep Prasanna to their Litigation department as a Senior Associate. Prasanna joins the firm from the Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the United States Capitol (the January 6th Committee), where he spent the past 15 months investigating, documenting, and presenting the facts related to that unprecedented event.

"Sandeep has held important positions on the Hill and with DOJ and has critical insight into how investigations work and how Congress operates," said Kathryn Cameron Atkinson, Chair of Miller & Chevalier. "He is a smart, dedicated advocate and meticulous investigator who can get to the essence of complex issues, which will be of great benefit to our clients as we help them navigate their most critical matters."

Prasanna brings years of federal government experience and understanding to the firm. In his work with the January 6th Committee, Prasanna conducted depositions and interviews of nearly 100 witnesses, provided strategic and legal guidance on novel congressional investigations issues, managed the intake and follow-up for thousands of confidential tips, and participated in producing the Committee's public-facing work, including the nationally televised hearings and the final report expected to be released this month.

Prior to that role, as a "day-one" presidential appointee in the Department of Justice (DOJ), Prasanna guided several nominees through the Senate confirmation process, providing them with strategic advice on political and legal issues, preparing them for hearing testimony and written questions from senators, assisting with financial disclosures, and helping them develop bipartisan relationships and support in Congress.

He also represented DOJ on Capitol Hill, engaging often with elected officials and their staff on proposed legislation and congressional oversight. Previously, as the Staff Director and Counsel for the Subcommittee on Intelligence & Counterterrorism — the top counterterrorism advisor to Chairman Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS) on the U.S. House Committee on Homeland Security — Prasanna led investigations, hearings, and the successful passage of several House bills, often working closely with the minority staff and external stakeholders to win bipartisan support. Prasanna also worked for two senior senators, as a Legislative Aide to Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) and General Counsel to former Senator Bill Nelson (D-FL), providing them with strategic guidance on a range of sensitive and complex issues related to the Senate Judiciary Committee and other Senate committees. At Miller & Chevalier, Prasanna will use the unique insights he gained from his meaningful Senate, House, and Executive branch work to advise clients across a wide range of investigations including those initiated at the congressional level.

"Sandeep's know-how and tireless work ethic make him a great addition to the Miller & Chevalier Litigation team. From his work on civil and human rights and domestic terrorism; to the key roles he played in the confirmations of senior DOJ officials; to his leadership on the January 6th Committee, Sandeep's passion and excellence come through in everything he touches. We're thrilled he's joining our team and know he will immediately play an important part in supporting our clients facing investigations," said Litigation Department Chair Andrew Wise.

An adjunct professor at Georgetown University Law Center, Prasanna earned an A.B. with distinction from Duke University, an M.P.P. with highest honors on his applied thesis from the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) Luskin School of Public Affairs, and a J.D. from the UCLA School of Law, where he served as Co-Editor-in-Chief and Symposium Director of the Journal of International Law & Foreign Affairs. He began his legal career as a Legal Fellow at Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights, where he led an investigation into racial justice and violations of human rights law in the United States. Before law school, Prasanna wrote for The Economist as a weekly correspondent.
