Rocco Femia, Lamia Matta,* Matthew Reinhard,* Mark Rochon and James Tillen will be speaking at 2014 Annual Conference of the International Bar Association (IBA) on October 21-23, 2014 in Tokyo, Japan. Tillen is the co-chair of the Anti-Corruption Committee and Rochon is the co-chair of the Business Crime Committee. The Anti-Corruption Committee will focus on the effect of new anti-corruption laws around the world, such as aggressive enforcement, including extraterritorial enforcement of national laws and a wide range of anti-corruption initiatives. The Business Crime Committee will focus on awareness within the business community and among transactional lawyers of the growing significance of legal compliance.

Femia will present during a panel session titled "Treaty Shopping: Fiction or Reality." During this session sponsored by the IBA's Taxation Section, Taxes Committee, panelists will address the tools created by different countries to prevent treaty shopping, methods for reconciling treaty and non-treaty responses, domestic legislation and the limitations of benefits clauses, and how these questions vary in non-OECD jurisdictions.

Matta will present, as part of a panel, "Arab Region: Enhancing your Clients' Market -- Business Establishment and Working with Agents, Distributors, Franchisees and Joint Venture Partners." Panelists will discuss a range of considerations, including incorporation, joint ventures, intellectual property, employment, compliance and regulation.

Reinhard will speak on a panel titled "Levelling the playing field - defending multinationals in a world of increased cross-border cooperation." This session will address conflicting legal obligations, data privacy, attorney-client privilege, duplicative sanctions, conflicting rules on witness rights, taxes, securities and anti-competition and extended international cooperation and joint prosecutions.

Rochon will present, as part of a panel, "The Unusual Suspects: The In-House Counsel, Compliance Officer and External Counsel as Criminal Accused."

Tillen will present, as part of a panel, "Global Update on Anti-Corruption Enforcement and Legislation." Panelists will discuss updates on developments in anti-corruption enforcement and legislation that have occurred in the last year in their respective regions.

The IBA conference will discuss issues ranging from arbitration to M&A law, from human rights to the ethics of the legal profession.
