Samuel A. Lapin Named a 2023 - 2024 John S. Nolan Fellow by ABA Section of Taxation

Washington, DC, May 9, 2023 – Miller & Chevalier is pleased to announce that Senior Associate Samuel Lapin was one of six attorneys nationwide that was named a 2023 - 2024 John S. Nolan Fellow by the American Bar Association (ABA) Section of Taxation (Tax Section). Lapin is an active member of the Administrative Practice and Court Practice and Procedure Committees. He has served as a panelist on several panels, has assisted on comment projects, and plans monthly calls for the Administrative Practice Committee. Nolan Fellows are tax lawyers who are actively involved in the Tax Section and have demonstrated leadership qualities and a commitment to the Tax Section's mission.

It is particularly meaningful that Lapin should receive this honor given that the late John S. Nolan (Jack), former Assistant Secretary for Tax Policy at the U.S. Department of the Treasury and Chair, ABA Tax Section, was also an attorney with Miller & Chevalier for many years during two tenures. Jack Nolan defined excellence at the firm. He would be pleased to know Sam Lapin is carrying on the 100+ year tradition of hard work, commitment, and leadership at the ABA Tax Section.

Lapin, a Senior Associate in Miller & Chevalier's Tax Department, focuses largely on tax controversy and litigation matters. Lapin has experience working with clients during Internal Revenue Service (IRS) audits and before the IRS Independent Office of Appeals on a variety of issues, including the R&D credit, partnership basis adjustments, management fee waivers, charitable contributions, and collection and penalty issues.
