Miller & Chevalier Elects Katherine E. Pappas as Member

Washington, DC, January 5, 2023 – Miller & Chevalier Chartered today announced the election of Katherine E. Pappas as Member of the firm, effective January 1.

"We are delighted to welcome Katherine into the firm's Membership. She has developed real expertise in complex niches of the white collar defense practice and has become a trusted counselor to our clients. I look forward to her future achievements as she steps into this new role," said Kathryn Cameron Atkinson, Chair of Miller & Chevalier.

Katherine focuses her practice on white collar defense, internal investigations, and compliance program evaluation and enhancement. She has conducted internal investigations on behalf of multinational corporations stemming from allegations of workplace misconduct, fraud, violations of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA), and anti-competitive practices, and has advised and represented clients in enforcement actions and related issues that arise out of such investigations. She has written and spoken on complex privilege issues and consideration of risks posed by parallel proceedings. In addition, Katherine has extensive experience conducting compliance program assessments and testing and the design and implementation of remediation measures. For the past three years, Katherine has served in a leadership role on an Independent Compliance Monitor team focusing on the effectiveness of a company's human resources compliance program in addressing harassment and discrimination issues.

"During her decade at the firm, Katherine has been a core member of teams that have handled some of our most complicated matters," added Andrew Wise, Chair of Miller & Chevalier's Litigation department. "She has a knack for getting to the core of an issue, whether factual or legal. This career milestone is well deserved and Katherine has great things ahead of her."

In addition to her work on behalf of clients at Miller & Chevalier, Katherine is active in the community. In 2017, former Chief Judge Morin of the DC Superior Court appointed Katherine to a four-year term as a member of the Advisory Merit Selection Panel, a cross-disciplinary group of lawyers and non-attorneys who play an important role in the appointment process of Magistrate Judges, conducting interviews and recommending candidates to the Board of Judges. Since 2015, Katherine has served as a member of the DC Children's Law Center Advisory Board, working to ensure the organization continues providing legal services to thousands of DC children and their families.

Katherine earned a B.A. in History, magna cum laude, from Duke University and a J.D., cum laude, from Harvard Law School. While at Harvard, she served as an executive editor of the Harvard Civil Rights-Civil Liberties Law Review.
