Loren Ponds, former majority tax counsel for the House Ways and Means Committee, was quoted on the potential for Mexican taxpayers doing business in the U.S. to run into issues with Mexico's anti-tax-haven laws, following the U.S. corporate tax rate cut provided in the Tax Cuts & Jobs Act (TCJA) in 2017. "From a reform point of view, the goal was not to create a tax haven. We were just trying to be more competitive," Ponds said.
