Washington, DC, September 4, 2020 – Miller & Chevalier Chartered announced today that it received firm and individual rankings in the 2021 edition of Chambers Latin America.

Firm Ranking:

  • Miller & Chevalier – Latin America-wide Corporate Crime & Investigations: Band One

Miller & Chevalier was recognized by Chambers Latin America for having a "heavy-hitting international department with an exceptional track record representing both companies and individuals in an array of Latin American corporate criminal matters." The publication notes that the firm boasts " first-rate expertise in compliance matters, benefiting from unmatched experience serving as compliance monitors in regional FCPA enforcement settlements." Clients emphasize the firm's "impressive bench strength" and "the efficiency, outstanding counsel and strategic guidance that they provide."

Individual Rankings:

  • Matteson Ellis – Corporate Crime & Investigations – Latin America-wide: Band One
  • James G. Tillen – Corporate Crime & Investigations – Latin America-wide: Band Two

Chambers Latin America describes Ellis as having "a phenomenal reputation in the market," and is noted by clients as "a lawyer for mission-critical matters as he is in the top bracket of practitioners." He is held in the highest regard for his handling of high-profile FCPA investigations and compliance matters, in addition to internal inquests.

Tillen, who serves as Chair of the firm's International Department, offers in-depth knowledge of anti-corruption investigations, regularly advising companies on those conducted internally as well as by the DOJ and SEC. Chambers interviewees are "quick to sing his praises," noting that "James is a very astute and pragmatic counsellor. He not only helps us identify and diagnose challenges and issues but comes up with ways to remedy the situation."

These rankings mark the seventh consecutive year that the firm has received recognition in Chambers Latin America within the Corporate Crime & Investigations section (formally Fraud & Corporate Investigations). The guide covers a total of 20 jurisdictions, spanning Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean, and all Spanish and Portuguese-speaking countries on the South American continent. The guide highlights lawyers with specific experience in Spanish and Portuguese-speaking countries. Chambers ranks lawyers and practices based on a combination of practice research and consistently positive market feedback.

About Chambers and Partners

The Chambers rankings are based on extensive research conducted by Chambers and Partners Legal Publishers, a highly respected English publisher of renowned directories assessing and ranking the world's leading lawyers. Unlike other companies that allow firms to purchase a mention or ranking, Chambers bases its listings solely on outside evaluations of merit. Its researchers investigate law firms and lawyers globally through an exhaustive process of interviewing clients and competitors in major areas of business law.
