Firm Ranking:

  • Miller & Chevalier – International Counsel: Corporate Crime & Investigations: Band One

Miller & Chevalier is recognized by Chambers Latin America for having a "heavy-hitting international department with an exceptional track record representing both companies and individuals in an array of Latin American corporate criminal matters." The publication notes that the firm boasts "first-rate expertise in compliance matters, benefiting from unmatched experience serving as compliance monitors in regional FCPA enforcement settlements." Clients emphasize the firm's "full knowledge of the clients' activities and industries in which they operate" and "their knowledge of the region and ability to resolve complex matters."

Individual Rankings:

  • Matteson Ellis – Corporate Crime & Investigations – International Counsel: Band One
  • James G. Tillen – Corporate Crime & Investigations – International Counsel: Band Two
  • Jeffrey A. Lehtman – Corporate Crime & Investigations – International Counsel: Band Three

Chambers Latin America describes Ellis as a "very clever" legal advisor who "is quick to understand the situation." Interviewees say Ellis "has developed a very good reputation among Brazilian companies and in South America generally," adding "companies trust him a lot." He is held in the highest regard for his handling of high-profile FCPA investigations and compliance matters, in addition to internal inquests.

Tillen, who serves as Chair of the firm's International Department, offers in-depth knowledge of anti-corruption investigations and regularly advises companies on those conducted internally as well as by the DOJ and SEC. Chambers interviewees say Tillen is "an oracle when it comes to FCPA knowledge," noting that he "really knows how navigate an internal investigation without incurring unnecessary costs."

Chambers reports Lehtman is widely admired for his considerable experience acting on high-profile Latin American white-collar investigations and compliance issues. Lehtman is noted as "a leading individual" in this space for his strong regional focus.

These rankings mark the eighth consecutive year that the firm has received recognition in Chambers Latin America within the Corporate Crime & Investigations section (formally Fraud & Corporate Investigations). The guide covers a total of 19 jurisdictions, spanning Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean, and all Spanish and Portuguese-speaking countries in South America. The guide highlights lawyers with specific experience in Spanish and Portuguese-speaking countries and ranks lawyers and practices based on a combination of practice research and consistently positive market feedback.

About Chambers and Partners
