"Corruption: Optimism in Peru, Pessimism in Colombia"

Latinvex

Matteson Ellis, Member at Miller & Chevalier who specializes in Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) matters, commented on the corruption outlook in Colombia and Peru. According to the 2020 Latin America Corruption Survey sponsored by Miller & Chevalier and local law firms, he wrote that "Colombians exhibit pessimism toward enforcement of local anti-corruption laws. Only 27 percent of Colombians believe that offenders are likely to be prosecuted, down from 63 percent in 2016." Ellis added that, at the same time, "there is much hope in Peru for growing enforcement of its local laws, which has the potential to trigger involvement of FCPA authorities given cooperation between the countries that is now well established."
