"Debt Committee Could Delay Renewal Of Expiring Tax Measures"

The Wall Street Journal and Dow Jones

Marc Gerson discusses how Congress' current focus on reducing the federal budget deficit may postpone until 2012 the annual push to pass a tax extenders package for expiring corporate tax breaks. "Although the package in some instances is enacted on a retroactive basis--as it was last year for 2010--it is preferable to have the package extended before then to provide certainty such that taxpayers can plan their research and development budgets and capital investment plans" for next year, said Gerson, a former Ways and Means Committee tax counsel.
