Marc Gerson was quoted regarding the staff international tax reform discussion draft released by Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus. Gerson noted that the draft contains several technical clean provisions that Congress should consider either within or outside the tax reform context. "In particular, the acceleration of the effective date of the worldwide interest expense allocation election, the simplification of the [passive foreign investment company] rules, and some of the changes to the FIRPTA rules are worthwhile technical changes that Congress should consider at any opportunity," he said.
