"Trump Payroll-Tax Cut Push Creates New Headache for Republicans"

The Hill

Marc Gerson, former tax counsel to the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Ways and Means, was quoted regarding President Trump's push that a payroll-tax cut be included in the next coronavirus relief package. The tax cut, considered a legislative priority for the president, is facing criticism from top Republican lawmakers who call the proposal problematic. Gerson stated that the overall size and other issues addressed in the package would determine the amount of any tax relief included in the relief bill. "A payroll-tax cut, even if it's only on the employee side, could potentially be extremely expensive," Gerson said.
