"Gas Tax for Infrastructure Sparks Fear of Political Backlash"

Bloomberg

Marc Gerson, Firm Chair and former tax counsel to the House Committee on Ways and Means, was quoted regarding the potential of an increase to the federal gas tax to fund infrastructure investments. An increase to the gas tax would likely require further changes to the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 (TCJA), making bipartisan compromise unlikely. "Democrats are interested in raising income and corporate tax rates, but Republicans are not interested in unraveling their big signature achievement," Gerson said. "There is no agreement."
