Marc Gerson commented on the tax extenders package released by the House and Senate tax-writing committees, which both chambers will likely approve at the end of the week. Included in the package are permanent extensions of a number of provisions including, a provision allowing tax -free charitable contributions from IRAs and the state and local sales tax deduction. "The history of bipartisan support made them natural candidates for permanent extension," Gerson said. With respect to the overall bill, Gerson noted that "At the end, you have a bill that [contains] the priorities of both parties and is a compromise in many ways."
