DC Tax Flash: IRS Instructs on Effective Dates For Paid Leave Employment Tax Credits

Tax Alert

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) today issued Notice 2020-21, which provides guidance on the effective date for paid leave employment tax credits under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA) (P.L. 116-127)

The guidance issued today explains that the tax credits for qualified sick leave wages and qualified family leave wages required to be paid under FFCRA "will apply to wages paid for the period beginning on April 1, 2020, and ending on December 31, 2020."

Notice 2020-21 also provides that the days within that time period will be taken into account "for credits for qualified sick leave equivalent amounts and qualified family leave equivalent amounts for certain self-employed individuals."
