Alejandra Montenegro Almonte and Saskia Zandieh Discuss Anti-Corruption Efforts on Guatemala's ChapinTV

Subtitle
"Promoting Anti-Corruption Law"

ChapinTV

Alejandra Montenegro Almonte and Saskia Zandieh* were interviewed by Guatemalan news channel ChapinTV following their presentation to the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) in Guatemala. "If multinationals are looking for companies in Guatemala in which to invest or with which to do business, they will want to do so with companies that are complying with international standards and those that do so with not only U.S. law, but also with organizations such as the OECD and other entities seeking this level of responsibility," Montenegro Almonte said. The consequences for non-compliance with anti-corruption laws such as the U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act can be severe and include millions of dollars in fines. "That is why companies are very focused on this issue and pour many resources into preventing this risk," Zandieh said. "You must first have a comprehensive compliance program to prevent risks and second you have to be ready in case you have an issue that becomes public."
