Marc Gerson, former tax counsel to the House Committee on Ways and Means, was quoted on the Trump Administration's proposal to cut the payroll tax as part of an effort to respond to the current economic challenges caused by the coronavirus. Republicans and Democrats could come together on some form of payroll tax suspension, Gerson said. "I think bipartisan agreement will depend on a variety of factors, including the length and severity of the crisis, its impact on the economy and whether or not there is an effort to pay for the cost of the relief."
