Marc Gerson, former tax counsel to the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Ways and Means, commented on the tax provisions included in the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act passed earlier this year. Gerson noted that the tax provisions in the law focused on "employment issues" and "immediate liquidity issues," and that while it is hard to assess their impact so far, the IRS and Treasury have done well in providing guidance.
