Timothy O'Toole Comments on Latest Preliminary Injunction Halting President Trump's Ban on TikTok in Caixin

"TikTok Never Stops"

Timothy O'Toole discussed the most recent preliminary injunction by a U.S. court that halts an executive order by President Trump which effectively banned the use of TikTok in the United States. He is optimistic that the executive order can be overturned in the future. The preliminary injunctions can become permanent injunctions – and those executive orders are void. The Trump administration cited national security concerns to bring restrictions on TikTok's U.S. operations. "The administration's model of targeting a single company is a more "ad hoc" approach that does not systematically address U.S. national security concerns about tech companies from other countries," O'Toole said. The decision as to whether the U.S. will continue its attempt to ban TikTok ultimately will reside with the incoming Biden administration. "It's going to take a lot of work for the Biden administration to keep the sanctions on TikTok and WeChat in place," O'Toole said.
