Miller & Chevalier Recognized As a "2008 Best Law Firm for Women" by Working Mother Magazine and Flex-Time Lawyers

Washington DC, August 12, 2008 - Miller & Chevalier Chartered announced today that the firm has been named a Best Law Firm for Women for the second year in a row by Working Mother magazine, the authoritative source for career mothers, and Flex-Time Lawyers LLC, a national consulting firm advising lawyers and legal employers on work/life balance. Miller & Chevalier was recognized as among the top firms that have redefined the standards of success by creating a workplace that encourages the retention and advancement of women.

"We are pleased to be distinguished again as one of the nation's most progressive law firms in terms of our commitment to encouraging and supporting the professional advancement of women lawyers," said Marianna Dyson, Chair of Miller & Chevalier. "We recognize the value of providing a work environment that is respectful of individuals' priorities inside and outside the office, and which encourages lawyers to excel in their legal practice. The policies and programs that exist at Miller & Chevalier are reflective of the important changes that are occurring in the business world and are an acknowledgement of the benefits of applying forward thinking to the retention and promotion of women lawyers at all stages of their careers."

Miller & Chevalier has a tradition of performing high-end, complex legal work within its specialty areas of tax; benefits, including ERISA; federal healthcare programs; white collar; federal procurement fraud; international; and related litigation. This focus allows the firm's lawyers to aspire to be the very best within their respective areas of law and fosters a particularly satisfying and increasingly unique place to work.

In addition to providing challenging and rewarding legal work, Miller & Chevalier is committed to enhancing diversity within its workforce and believes that a diverse law firm environment can work to everyone's benefit -- fostering a more creative work culture, producing more effective results for clients and enhancing the lawyer-client relationship. The firm also has a recognized pro bono program, and lawyers are encouraged to take an active role in giving back to the community.

Miller & Chevalier was founded in 1920, and the first woman lawyer joined the firm in 1931. The firm's current leadership features women in key positions, including Chair of the Firm, Executive Committee member, Co-Chair of the Recruiting Committee, Firm Counsel, and Pro Bono Counsel. Women lawyers, including associates, are involved in all levels of firm leadership. In addition, the firm's Executive Director and four other senior director positions are held by women. The firm has a Women Lawyers Group, which meets regularly to share ideas and provide mentoring to women associates.

The Best Law Firms for Women list was developed in a partnership between Working Mother magazine and Flex-Time Lawyers LLC in an effort to recognize and celebrate the achievements of law firms that successfully retain and promote outstanding legal talent. For the second year of this initiative, firms were evaluated based upon a variety of factors, including workforce profile; family friendly benefits and policies; flexibility; leadership, compensation and advancement of women; and, development and retention of women. The winning law firms were determined to be at the forefront of firms committed to implementing women-friendly policies.

"Today nearly half of law school graduates are women. Law firms need to make a fundamental shift in their policies by instituting female and family-friendly benefits as Miller & Chevalier has done," said Carol Evans, CEO, Working Mother Media. "We hope that by recognizing Miller & Chevalier, who has already moved the needle, a paradigm shift will follow."

Miller & Chevalier will be honored at a luncheon at the Mandarin Oriental in New York on September 15.
