"House GOP Border Adjusted Tax Plan Officially Dead"

Law360

Marc Gerson, Chair of Miller & Chevalier and former Majority Tax Counsel to the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Ways and Means, was quoted regarding the border adjusted tax (BAT) proposal, which White House officials and congressional leadership announced they will no longer pursue. Abandoning the BAT will have a dramatic impact on tax reform and proposals to lower tax rates, Gerson said. "Given the revenue raised by the BAT is now off the table, consideration will need to be given to additional revenue raisers and perhaps the overall revenue impact of a future tax reform package."
