Marc Gerson discusses the potential for tax reform this year, pointing to the State of the Union address and the Fiscal 2012 budget proposal as key indicators of the Obama Administration's priorities. "It will be interesting to see what emphasis the president places on tax reform in the State of the Union address … and whether the FY 2012 budget released in mid-February includes a tax reform proposal," said Gerson, a former tax counsel to the Ways and Means Committee. "Both the State of the Union and the budget will give Congress and taxpayers an indication of how serious the administration is about pursuing tax reform this year."
