Marc Gerson, Chair of Miller & Chevalier and former Republican tax counsel for the House Committee on Ways and Means Committee, commented on the decision to eliminate the border adjusted tax (BAT) from tax reform negotiations. Losing the revenue raised by the BAT concept "could be a retreat from permanence," Gerson said. "The other alternative is to do something temporary that has a deficit impact."
