"Business Execs Lower Expectations for Tax Reform"

Accounting Today

Marc Gerson discusses the results of the 2013 Tax Policy Forecast Survey conducted by Miller & Chevalier and the National Foreign Trade Council. According to survey results, the leading concern of business tax executives in the coming year is that Congress will enact revenue offsets to fund other legislative initiatives rather than make the U.S. tax system more competitive.

The current debate over sequestration illustrates this concern. "It has taxpayers concerned because they would be in the posture of being subject to increased taxes but no counterbalanced reduction in tax rates," Gerson said. "It not only has a short-term impact of increased overall tax liability, but long term it makes reform harder."
