Subtitle
"Insufficient Funding Could Undermine IRS Spending Plan"

Law360 Tax Authority

Jorge Castro, former Counselor to the IRS Commissioner, discussed the recently released plan for how the IRS intends to spend the $80 billion in funding received under the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). In addition to using funds for expanded enforcement to target noncompliance by wealthy individuals and large businesses, the IRS says it also plans to improve taxpayer services and bolster its technology. However less than 10 percent of the additional funding from the IRA is allocated for taxpayer services and business systems modernization. Castro said the agency's information technology is a vital matter. "It is as central to reforming the IRS and modernizing the IRS as any other issue."
