Jorge Castro was quoted in various news outlets regarding Treasury's pick of Douglas O'Donnell to serve as Acting IRS Commissioner. Castro, a former Counselor to the IRS Commissioner during the Obama Administration, told Politico that "[i]t is never optimal to not have a Senate-confirmed commissioner during politically sensitive discussions," especially now that the IRS will begin to implement the $80 billion in new funding it received in the Inflation Reduction Act. However, in comments to Tax Notes, Castro called O'Donnell "a phenomenal pick," who will be "able to hit the ground running." Castro also noted in Bloomberg Tax that O'Donnell will need to frequently communicate with lawmakers and the Administration, but predicted they would enjoy working with O'Donnell calling him a "good ambassador for the Service to Congress."
