Jorge Castro, former Counselor to the IRS Commissioner during the Obama Administration, discussed the possibility of the Senate confirming a new IRS Commissioner after the midterm elections. Once the Biden Administration announces a nominee for IRS Commissioner, the confirmation process could take time, especially if Republicans win control of the Senate in the midterms. Castro said a lame-duck confirmation is "too tight a window," adding that since the IRS received new funding, the agency is under intense scrutiny and many lawmakers will want to meet with the nominee before voting.
