The agency will downshift from two deputy commissioners to one starting in 2024, and introduce four new chief positions — which will focus on core agency functions, including information technology, operations, taxpayer compliance, and taxpayer services. "Those four key function areas tell you a lot about how the Commissioner and the leadership are thinking about how they're going to modernize the agency and what they care most about," Castro said.
