Jorge Castro Comments on Democrats' Support for Infrastructure Package in The Hill

Subtitle
"Biden Faces Challenge with Democrats on Infrastructure Package"

The Hill

Tax Member Jorge Castro, former Democratic Congressional tax aide and Counselor to the IRS Commissioner during the Obama administration, commented on the hurdles President Biden faces toward getting consensus among Democrats on an infrastructure package, regardless of whether it is bipartisan legislation or if Democrats pursue legislation on their own. Progressives are getting frustrated with President Biden's ongoing talks with Republicans, and want the White House to start to pursue an infrastructure package that could pass without Republican support through the budget reconciliation process. But some moderate Democrats have raised concerns about aspects of the tax proposals the Biden administration has floated to pay for infrastructure legislation, so reaching a deal won't necessarily be without its challenges. It will be important for President Biden to have Congressional Democrats united behind an infrastructure package since the party only narrowly controls the House and the Senate. Castro said that if Democrats design a bill that does not get Republican support, diļ¬€erences between progressives and moderates are likely to be "more pronounced."
