Jorge Castro commented on two significant pieces of legislation passed this year, the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) and the CHIPS Act. Castro, a former Counselor to the IRS Commissioner during the Obama Administration, said the added funding from the IRA was "just the tip of the iceberg" of changes coming to the IRS. "It's a trifecta of priorities," Castro said. "You have IRA implementation that's happening, you have a lot of IRA guidance that has to be developed, and then you have the filing season starting soon." Castro also discussed the CHIPS Act saying that since it was passed right before the IRA it was a short-lived memory in the minds of policymakers. "I feel like [that bill] has been forgotten in some ways, which is unfortunate," Castro said, adding that it "obviously has an impact on U.S. manufacturing and competitiveness."
