"USMCA vs. NAFTA: The Good and The Bad"

Latinvex

As part of a Q&A discussion panel, Richard Mojica answered questions about the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) and how it compares with its predecessor, the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). Questioned on key changes in the USMCA, Mojica noted "the USMCA modernizes NAFTA by strengthening IP protections, streamlining customs procedures, enacting new rules for the digital economy, and implementing new labor and environmental protections." Addressing the decision to implement the USMCA during the COVID-19 pandemic, Mojica stated this timing makes sense "because the Trump Administration is encouraging U.S. companies to move supply chains away from China as quickly as possible."
