"CARES Act Lobbying Success Paves Way for Companies' Next Asks"

Bloomberg Tax

Former majority tax counsel to the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Ways and Means Marc Gerson was quoted on the continued lobbying efforts by companies after passage of the CARES Act. As negotiations on the next coronavirus relief package continue, many companies are seeking benefits similar to those contained in the March relief bill. Notably, several retailers are seeking an expansion of certain tax benefits they received under the CARES Act. According to Gerson, these tax breaks continue to show up in lobbying forms because the pandemic is lasting "a lot longer than expected, and that calls for additional relief," adding that "things have changed—the crisis has continued."
