Jorge Castro Comments on Equal Importance of Congressional Votes on Both Sides of SALT Cap in The Hill

"Progressives Divided Over Efforts to Repeal SALT Cap"

The Hill

Tax Member Jorge Castro, former Congressional tax aide and Counselor to the IRS Commissioner during the Obama administration, commented on the division among congressional Democrats regarding the repeal of the state and local tax (SALT) deduction cap, which poses a challenge as Democrats try to build consensus on President Biden's infrastructure package. Biden's infrastructure plan does not include repeal of the SALT cap, however an increasing number of House Democrats from high-tax states are urging the President and House leadership to include a repeal in the eventual bill. "There are members of Congress on both sides of this issue whose votes are equally important," Castro said. "The margins in Congress are very slim, and the Biden administration and congressional leadership, they don’t have any votes to spare."
