James Bensfield and Jonathan Kossak Honored at Mid-Atlantic Innocence Project Annual Awards Luncheon

Washington, DC, July 16, 2014 -- Miller & Chevalier Chartered today announced that James Bensfield and Jonathan Kossak were honored by the Mid-Atlantic Innocence Project (MAIP) during their Seventh Annual Awards Luncheon.

Bensfield and Kossak helped MAIP achieve one of its most successful years ever, according to the organization. The recognition follows the 2013 exoneration of Jerry Lee Jenkins and the complete dismissal of a 1986 rape conviction, which the two lawyers, in conjunction with MAIP, helped to secure.

"We are also thrilled to honor the pro bono legal teams that have, since shortly before last year's luncheon, helped MAIP secure the freedom of three men," including Jerry Jenkins, MAIP said. "While MAIP's legal staff does excellent work, those clients would not have been freed without the incredible pro bono work of our co-counsel in those cases."

About the Mid-Atlantic Innocence Project

The Mid-Atlantic Innocence Project (MAIP) is a non-profit organization dedicated to correcting and preventing the conviction of innocent people in the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia. MAIP works with a dedicated Board of Directors and scores of pro bono lawyers and law students to screen and investigate the cases of prisoners who request assistance. MAIP then provides pro bono investigative and legal help in the most compelling cases, working to ensure that innocent prisoners obtain their freedom.
