In this article, James Tillen and Gregory Bates* discuss the effects of police corruption on corporations operating in Latin America and provide guidance on mitigating those corruption risks. "Corporations are not immune from police corruption. Across the region, from urban centers, semi-urban areas on the periphery of cities, and in rural, resource-rich, but otherwise impoverished, areas, companies frequently interact with the police and security forces," the authors wrote. "As a result, corporations should seek to understand their interactions with the police and security forces, assess the risk the interactions pose and ensure their compliance programs are equipped to address those risks."
