GW Law Event: The Lawyer as the Gatekeeper Against Corruption

Washington, DC

Homer E. Moyer, Jr. will be speaking on the panel "The Lawyer as the Gatekeeper Against Corruption" on March 22, 2016, from 10-11:30 a.m. EDT. This event is hosted by The George Washington University Law School. A member of the investigative organization Global Witness, assigned to act as a lawyer representing a minister from a West African country, sought legal advice from several U.S. lawyers about investing millions of dollars into the United States, while keeping the minister's identity hidden. What transpired was secretly recorded and aired in late February on a CBS 60 Minutes episode called "Anonymous, Inc." The panel will discuss the legal and ethical implications of the scenario as well as other issues relating to the role of the lawyer in stopping international corruption.
