The retrial of Kevin Ring may be the first trial to test the scope of the honest services law following the Supreme Court’s decision in Skilling v. U.S. The National Journal covered a recent hearing in the case, and quoted Andy Wise, Ring's attorney, taking issue with the prosecution’s assertion that Skilling would not impact the honest services charges against Ring, saying, "I find it remarkable the government can get up here and say Skilling has no effect on this case. It was part of the case and the foundation upon which it was built."
