Margot Laporte commented on the latest developments in France relevant to the country's anti-corruption enforcement efforts. On June 27, 2019 the Parquet national financier (PNF) and Agence française anticorruption (AFA) jointly issued their first guidance regarding the use of the French deferred prosecution agreement (the CJIP). The guidance encourages companies to self-report, cooperate, and conduct internal investigations. In many respects, the new guidance brings France closer to the U.S. model of anti-corruption enforcement. Laporte, who has worked extensively with French companies in the United States and Europe, said the guidance signals that prosecutors may use information turned over by the company to prosecute individuals—another parallel with the U.S.
