Theresa S. Gee Inducted as Fellow of American College of Employee Benefits Counsel

Washington, DC, October 9, 2020 – Miller & Chevalier is pleased to announce that Theresa (Tess) S. Gee has been inducted as a Fellow of the American College of Employee Benefits Counsel (ACEBC) during the College's 21st Annual Meeting and Induction Ceremony, held virtually on October 8. Induction as a Fellow of the ACEBC is a national distinction for employee benefits lawyers who have made demonstrably substantive contributions to the field of employee benefits. Fellows are selected by the College's Board of Governors through a nationwide nomination process which is limited to those who have focused on employee benefits law for at least 20 years and have shown a sustained commitment to public awareness and understanding of benefits laws through such activities as writing, speaking, public policy analysis, public education, or public service. Nominees are also required to have provided exceptionally high-quality professional services to clients, the bar, and the public. This year's four inductees join over 400 current Fellows in the organization.

Tess focuses her employee benefits practice on ERISA's fiduciary and prohibited transaction provisions, assisting her clients in responding to Department of Labor (DOL) investigations and advising on plan design, fiduciary processes, disclosures, prohibited transactions and exemptions, and controlled group issues. She also has successfully defended major corporations, directors, and officers in ERISA class actions involving 401(k) and defined benefit plans. Tess's experience includes nearly 14 years of service in DOL's Office of the Solicitor, including as a Deputy Associate Solicitor in the division responsible for ERISA litigation and advice. Tess writes frequently on ERISA issues and is the author of ERISA: Department of Labor Investigations and Litigation (Practicing Law Institute), an authoritative guide to DOL ERISA enforcement.
