Margot Laporte commented on a Connecticut federal judge's decision to acquit former Alstom SA executive Lawrence Hoskins of bribery charges, which may cause U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) prosecutors to shift tactics in Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) cases against non-U.S. citizens. The judge's ruling will only serve to further encourage individuals seeking to undermine the DOJ's legal theories, Laporte said. "We have seen increasing numbers of individuals challenging DOJ's jurisdictional and charging theories. This will bolster their motivation to do so."
