Erin Sweeney Comments on Electronic Disclosure Rules in Bloomberg Law
"Digital Tweaks May Not Stop at Retirement Info: Benefits Lawyers"
Erin Sweeney commented on the Employee Benefits Security Administration's proposed changes to existing electronic disclosure rules for qualified retirement plans, which would allow certain disclosures to be provided electronically. Sweeney noted that while employers are interested in moving health and welfare disclosures into the digital age, overlapping privacy protections will likely hold up any expansion efforts. There may be opportunities to include increasingly popular tools such as multimedia messaging and mobile-friendly apps into the mix, Sweeney added. "It's good that there's something on the table, but we need to get beyond the idea that you need an email address to play."
