An Important Collaboration: CHROs and Legal Confront a Crisis
In this article, Preston Pugh, twice-appointed compliance monitor and former GE Senior Counsel, discusses the ways in which chief human resource officers and legal counsel can collaborate to effectively manage a crisis. Pugh notes that CHROs should work together with legal counsel regardless of the origin of the crisis. "Even if the issue is not an HR problem, CHROs are needed to provide an initial response to employees, as they will know the most effective ways to reach hundreds or thousands of employees at or near the same time," Pugh said. And, once the crisis is over – even one as complex as the crisis we are in now – "CHROs should still lead the assessment of how to mitigate the effects of future crises on the company's employees."
