In this article, Barbara Linney discussed the 2019 outlook for U.S. sanctions against Iran, following the elimination in 2018 of limited sanctions relief under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). "Currently, the Trump administration is waging a comprehensive interagency approach to Iran sanctions led by a Special Representative on Iran and core staff at the U.S. Department of State," Linney wrote, "but Congress undoubtedly will be watching the administration's progress closely, and will not hesitate to step in if warranted." She predicted that "the momentum for increased sanctions and enforcement of existing sanctions gained over the past year will continue to build, impacting both U.S. and non-U.S. persons."
