WorldECR Export Controls and Sanctions Forum: Singapore
Barbara Linney will be speaking at the WorldECR Export Controls and Sanctions Forum in Singapore on November 20, 2018. Linney will give two presentations, "Developments in U.S. Sanctions Policy" and "Complying with U.S. Export Controls."
The sanctions policy presentation will focus on American unilateral sanctions against Iran, Russia, and North Korea, including the enhanced secondary sanctions provisions of CAATSA – all of which create potential exposures for both U.S. and non-U.S. companies. Her presentation will explain the fundamentals of U.S. sanctions policy, the impact for non-U.S. businesses of U.S. withdrawal from the JCPOA (the "Iran nuclear deal"), the ramping up of sanctions against Russia, and the need for enhanced due diligence, not least (but not only) around transactions involving North Korea.
The U.S. export controls presentation will explain the nuts and bolts of the U.S export control regime as it impacts Asian companies and subsidiaries, including the essentials of "commodity Jurisdiction" and classification, reexporting products using U.S. parts and components, and de minimis calculations under both export control and sanctions rules.
