Firm Profile  Commitment To Diversity
Miller & Chevalier is committed to enhancing the diversity of its legal service team.  The firm values the different individual backgrounds of all of its professionals and staff and the benefits those diverse experiences bring to the firm and its clients.  Indeed, we believe that a diverse law firm environment can work to everyone’s benefit.  For example, a legal team composed of lawyers from diverse backgrounds and cultures can foster a more creative work environment, produce a more effective result for the client, and enhance the lawyer-client relationship.

An ultimate goal of the firm is to create a workplace environment in which everyone feels encouraged to do his or her best for the client, communicates openly and honestly with colleagues, and has the opportunities needed to thrive professionally.   The firm holds itself to this standard. Notably, the firm was chosen as one of the winning firms for the 2007 Working Mother & Flextime Lawyers Best Law Firms for Women survey.  In 2006, the firm was awarded the Bar Association of the District of Columbia’s Constance L. Belfiore 2006 Quality of Life Award.  (The firm was a finalist for this award in 2005.)  The firm also received the #1 ranking among Washington, D.C. law firms in the 2003 American Lawyer Mid-Level Associate Survey.

Going forward, the firm knows much work remains to be done.  As a result, improving our diversity is a key priority of the firm’s strategic planning.  In 2005, the firm’s Executive Committee endorsed a comprehensive strategy to guide the firm’s efforts to have a thriving, diverse attorney workforce.  This effort is coordinated by the firm’s Diversity Committee, which is made up of a cross-section of members and associates, plus the Pro Bono Counsel and the Director of Recruiting and Professional Development.
